The scale of distances in the game are all wrong and it really pisses me off in world games. Australia and South America are waaaay closer than they appear on a flat map and the distance between moscow and vladivostok is much much less. Canada and russia both have northern coastlines that border a small circular sea, an air flight from Vancouver to Moscow is only a few hours.

The world is a sphere.

We are aware that the world is not a cylinder. We do wish the game featured a realistic spherical model of the planet, preferably with the 3D landscape... However, the realities of creating a browser game dictate their own rules, and even the current map engine is ridiculously complicated - simply connecting the flat map into a 'cylinder' was the single greatest challenge we have encountered.

And it came out great!

The only thing I find wrong with the world map is northern canada- theres supposed to be an archipelego up there, yet its been formed into a penninsula- but its only a minor thing compared to the greatness that is the world map, they did a great job on it- and I love it. But i'd realy like to know if there are any plans to make northern canada physicaly correct, or keep it as is (it bugs me lol)

There's not much action going on in northern Canada - one might say, none at all. So there's little incentive to make the map really accurate. Also the problem with that part (as well as northern Russia) is that the coastline is hidden by snow and ice, so it's rather difficult to trace it.

That's exactly what i thought might be the problem, lol. Maybe tyou could try doing the ol' "look and draw"? (Have a map of of the world/northern canada and just look between adobe illustrater and the map at the same time). Another reason why I think it might be better to have it more accurate up there is the possibility of a northern route to russia- not sure if all if the ocean above canada/alaska is frozen, but it would be better than going through panama lol.

I belive the Air planes are not able to move as they would on a real map and an increse in there move would bring the issues with the map more in line with real world.
BUT i like the game the way it is now too.

Haha isn't that a picture rendered to represent the Earth's magnetic field? In reality with how minimal the Earth's elevation changes it is technically smooth enough to be a billiard ball.

The colours would represent that, but the real shape is that one (Aprox). The shape we are used to see is just to make things easier
Two more pics to make it clearer (In portuguese but i think it wont be hard to understand)

Anyway, my point is: The cilinder is the best kind of map for our use (best representation of medium latitudes) since we dont use the poles; Making it able to travel top and getting bottom would be wrong since high latitudes are highly distorted in that kind of representation

The nicest would be if there is an example of where making such a map does work.

Google Maps for example has the same as Afterwind (North and south not connected to eachother)

It's a big company and I think they chose not to to make sure the map wouldn't become messed up.

If the map would be is shape of a ball its going to be quite difficould to keep the overview... cause you can only look at one side of the ball and not "around the edge"...

but what about at least fly over the north pole... so moving over the north/south pole the map would rotate 180 degrees west-east and north south wards... (this is the "tours") this would create new connections for "crossing" oceans like on the pcific map...

Or another possibility is to use the form of a ball, be standing in the inner core and place the world map on the inner side of the ball

Ok what about a "Torus" do you all think this would be possible here is a link about it. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torus

Yet again I want to point this out
this would connect the north and south poles together so euro could engage the southern part of the map faster..

it would but... if we were able to go north and south like we can go east to west it would allow the game to be a little more real and add more tactics to the game.

ya but it would allow people like NC to use the sea a little more or SM to use the sky if you all looked at the link it should make it more simple I was just wondering is this something that you all could do or would our current system not support this current idea
