Dominican contribution to the world?

In term of science and research... what have the Dominicans contributed to the world?

Nothing useful really, I'd say some but other discovers about the exotics species that lives in the island. Most of our gold got stolen exchanged to the Spanish empire for glass other less valuable stuff... so we were left poor.

In Latin American though, and generally among hispanics our literature is very good and we had some of the best writters such as Juan Bosch, Salome Peña, etc....
