Western Europeans are not responsible for this and neither are the Greek people. The responsibility lies in the bankers and snake oil salesman politicians who goaded everyone into this mess. These people have no national ties, they are oligarchical globalists who have set this situation up.

Anyway my response might have been a little emotional and humorous, but factually correct nonetheless. This Greek discussion has been overdiscussed, but i like you so i will reply.

Firstly, that video, sorry if i seem strict, but i consider it trash. I would call it junk journalism as it is inaccurate and tries to oversimplify a complicated situation, ignoring key facts and events. Not to mention false stereotypes, like the lazy Greeks. Jesus i thought we were over this by now, anyone with half a brain can look up the statistics that state they work the longest hours in Europe.

Now the video implies, that its all Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain's fault for spending too much after joining the euro, disregarding completely that had these countries not joined the eurozone, their crisis wouldnt even exist in the first place and even if they did, they would have ways to deal with it, like devaluating their currencies, pussing exports and etc. In the eurozone strong economies like Germany and france, with already strong exports thrive even with an expensive euro, whilst Southern European countries who rely on tourism and agricultural products are doomed to be uncompetitive and operate at loss. And lets not hide behind our fingers, we all know policy in Eu is made to tailor Germanys needs. Also countries cannot even devaluate their currencies in respond to deficits to keep growth. In short Eurozone institution was destined to fail from the start, letting Greece in with such a small economy was ridiculous. But if you take a look athow this all started and who gained and who lost from all this, things will start to appear clearer.

First of all the video lies, because as you can see in the above, Greece debt remained the same for almost a decade since she joined the Eurozone.

Looking at this, its obvious the first two people to blame are the ones in charge in the periods where the debt rose, meaning '80-'90 and 2008-2012. Surprisingly (for you) these people are of the same family Andreas Papandreou and the later, his son Giorgos Papandreou. Both lived and studied in the USA and their political party, courtesy of Mr Rockefeller. So im not try to shift all the blame away, these two people have a big portion of the blame, as well as the people who voted for them and kept them in power.

But its not that simple, stuff followed. What the video failed to mention, was the Lehman brothers disaster after, which is in essence what jumpstarted the situation. Because while Greek banks had not invested in their toxic bonds, French and German banks had and they had to cover their losses. Greece had only 12% deficit, perfectly manageable (ireland had 14). But the vultures had to find a way. Lending rates were raised, a new head of the ELSTAT were appointed in Greece by IMF herself and suddenly the debt was (artifically) inflated to 15% and everyone were suddenly urging Greece to accept a bailout package even when dozens of credible economists were saying no and thousands of people protested in Greece not to take the money. The loans were "forced" on us.

The rest is history, the debt skyrocketed and continued to rise, the economy was destroyed, a series of unsustainable and ridiculously harsh austerity measures are being imposed upon Greece, with negative results and zero chances to succeed, Germany and France saved their banks, they receive their nice 10 billion in interest every year and they get to point their finger at Greece at every opportunity, they still sell billions worth of tanks, jets and submarines to Greece every year (note- Germany prohibits us from buying cheap Russian arms and at the same time sents us ridiculously overpriced submarines that cant even go straight lmao. Clowns) , do not pay Greece for handling all the millions of 3rd world immigrants Germany and France invited over here in the first place, while at the same time blackmailing us that if we restrict our borders they will kick us out of Sengen and...and... i left the best for last...finance our opposition offcourse, Turkey with EUROPEAN TAXPAYER MONEY, for the reason of the continuation of letting hunderds of thousands of illegal immigrants through the Turkish-Greece border and coastlines.

So, NO i am not ashamed. Germany and the 4th reich should be ashamed.

and, your debt per gdp didnt increase, since you joined the euro, but your GDP doubled, you notice something? joining the eurozone might not have been the worst thing your politicians have ever done, your economy doubled, but so did your debts.

On top of that, is the euro inflating since the greek crisis begun and it has lost almost 1/3 of its worth to the dollar since 2010. WICH EFFECTIVELY MEANS, YOU HAVE BEEN GIFTED ANOTHER 75 BILLION DOLLARS SINCE 2010. A THANK YOU WOULD BE NICE

so, we want to control our borders, if you could do that, awesome, if you cant, and we have to let turkey and hungary do that, fine, its fine, we're cool, i still like greek culture, beaches, philosophers, olive oil.

but you know what makes me want to go to greece just to punch you in the face? when you claim, the EU had done NOTHING for you and millions of rich greeks not paying their taxes dont matter, while the other half lives of the last 0.25€ leftover from the last bailout for 3 months. look, there are two options,

1: europe becomes a union in wich every country has its responibilities and rights, a union from wich everyone benefits,
or
