How do you personally reflect on your own existence, and how do you interpret it's meaning, if you believe there is any? EX: I believe that all living things are birthed out of nothing, and gain everything they can desire through life's struggles, learning, and feelings. A person's meaning should be chosen by them, no matter how small or outlandish it is. If you possess the will to accomplish a task, and truly want to achieve that task, than you are a Human. Not possessing the drive to accomplish your goals, or possessing no goals merits you the task of achieving as such. To this task there is nor wrong answer or counterargument, the drive to be and to achieve is accomplished even by reading the words I have typed, or posting your own reply to this very topic. To be Human is to be something- anything that you wish, desire, or naturally become. ---- Please- type your responses, no matter how silly or serious they may be. Think about this question as you do everything else in your life; be yourself.

Wow this is a deep thread. existential crisis anyone? life has no purpose, we are all just highly evolved monkeys clinging to a rock floating through space, and the rock itself is dying. *slits wrists*

Well there's nothing you said Gard that can be logically refuted. I have the same views. "Know thyself." -Socrates; Is all that we can associate the meaning of life and so forth based on our knowledge of the world and on our limitations.

Nothing has to be logical to have a Human opinion, mind you.
Existential crisis? Just discussion, friend. Maybe we are just highly evolved monkeys on a flying rock, but what if we chose to think of ourselves as more than that? And to achieve more than that? Would you believe life to have purpose than; to create and innovate? Remember to walk down the street, not across.

I refuse to accept Nihilism on the ground that it is logically wrong, if you possess the willpower to make something out of your existence. If you're so arrogant and lazy as to reject existence and make it worse for others, you are still making something out of your existence, therefore trumping your belief that you serve no purpose; your purpose is to pretend you have no purpose.

thats slightly egotistical lol but seriously i am not a nihilist, my views on religion and the meaning of life are very complicated. i don't wish to devolve the topic into a religious debate but for many ppl the meaning of life and religon are inextricably linked, in that in searching for the former many people will turn to the latter. i'm a born catholic, confirmed and all that but not a practicing one, i'm not an atheist nor am i agnostic, i lie somewhere inbetween those too. for me i believe that you should live your life to the fullest, be a decent/kind person, try to better yourself, and find happiness. youre on this planet for whatever length of time, make the best of it. if thats the purpose for us being here i do not know, but i guess we're all trying to find out. my morales, values and the way i believe i should live reflect the basic values espoused by many of the world religions, but in those i find many contradictions, holes and practices i disagree with. I'm a logical person, if theres a higher power out there, in my opinion he/she/it has a lot to answer for. also im surprised to find a thread that makes me think like this on aw of all places

wealth, power, health, and fame also love is biggest meaning of my own existence "According to greek mythology, humans were originally created with 4 arms, 4 legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves." ― Plato I think is time for you to find your other halves (i mean girlfriend)
