My understanding of critical is that critical hits will add extra hits points to the currently attacking units . So lets say 1 tank is attacking 1 inf. And critical hit of tank is 3 so along with 7 hit points the total hit point of the tank becomes 10. But the chances of that happening is 3/100 so just 3 %. That was my understanding. Can someone explain where I am wrong. Or if I am wrong ?

Critical add the max attack of your unit.

Let say a normal tank, which have 8 attacks.

Now, let say 1 tank and 1 infantry are in battle. The tank roll a random number from 1 to 8, and if the tank is lucky enough for strike a critical hit, then his roll get +8 attack. For example, let say the tank roll 4 and get a critical hit. Then his attack would be 4 + 8 = 12 hit points in total.

More specifically, you're saying a tank has a max attack of 8. the lowest to highest extra attack bonus from critical chance is 0-8 . and If a tank have 5% critical Chance then you have a 5% chance of getting any bonus attack from 0-8.
My question is does it also boost your defence as well

No. When you get a critical hit you add the max attack of your unit to his roll. For example, a tank with 8 attack is fighting a infantry. the tank roll 3 damange but the tank also get a critical hit. So, the tanks earn 3 + (his max damange = 8) = 11. It is very explained on the FAQ.

How does it decided its a critical hit ? In the battle reports how do you understand if its a critical hit?

The critical value of the unit is the percentage chance of dealing a critical hit.

the roll is shown as golden/yellow

EDIT: you also need to have the battle report's speed on slow to see the rolls and you can change this from the in-game settings
