This thread is just some thoughts about some experiments with the battle phases. Feel free to discuss, comment, post, and etc. If you find anything strange, feel free to post about it too, maybe we can make a research about it.

1. The true truth about how battle mechanics works.

Hypothesis: One unit with 1 HP attack another unit with 1 HP. The first one roll 4. The second one roll 3. Who wins?

According to the battle mechanics, both should lose. <Unit's Attack and Defence represent the maximum amount of damage you deal to the opponent. Attack and defence are executed simultaneously, so you're guaranteed to deal some damage in a battle. > But... does this really happens?

How much cases of 'draw' have you found? Not a single one ! During certain tests, I've manage to find a irregularity over this. My inspiration was, that I've never won a battle by general in attack, but I've won many battles by general on defense. I've never hear of anyone winning any battle by general attacking aswell. This eventually leads me to think that there's a relation between this and the 'draw' battle case. After many test, I've found this peculiar mechanic:

<Battle Phase: A) 3 Tanks (7 HP) and General (1 HP) against B) 3 Infantries (7 HP).>

Round 1: A rolls 13. B rolls 4.
Result 1: A) 3 Tanks (4HP), General (1HP), B) 2 Infantries(1HP).

Round 2: A roll 4. B roll 12.
Result 2: A) 1 Tank (6HP), General (1HP). B) 1 Infantry (7HP!?!?!?!?)

Round 3: A roll 6. B roll 10.
Result 3: A) Lost the battle. B) 1 Infantry left (1HP!?!?)

<Break>.

Apparently there's something wrong when passing the damage to the next unit, when in-defense position. My thoughs at the respect are that an attacking unit overkill doesn't work. The tank probably didn't passed the damage to the inf. But if this theory was right, then how does nukes works? I've replicated a nuke with 1 HP, to force a draw between two forces.

Here are the results:

In all of the battles, one infantry survived. Even in 1 vs 1 battle, the infantry still survives against the Nuke. This clearly proves there's something wrong with ''The last defending unit".

My final conclusion: All those battles won "by 1 unit' aren't casualty. In case of draw, the defender will win the battle.

How important is this? Let's say One tank with 1 HP is fighting one infantry with 1 HP. Not including critical. Then, the Tank have 100% chances of lose.
Then, Let's say both units have 2 HP. Then, in 87.5% of the cases, the Tanks would lose. If the Tank doesn't roll bigger than 2, then it would lose next turn.
Then, let's say both units have 4 HP. Then, in 37.5% of the cases, the Tanks would lose. If they want to win and avoid a possible chain, the must roll 4 or bigger.

2. Those strange 2vs1 battles.

Have you wondered how 1 Sky Menace bomber and one infantry lose against 1 militia? or even 1 infantry!!!! The chances should'be down the 0.001% but we know this is not true.

Sometimes, when both units dies, and there's no unit to receive the damage on the other side, the last defending unit won't take damage. Here's the GIF version of what I said, followed by a breakdown of the battle phase.

Battle Phase:
A) 1 infantry (7 HP) and 1 bomber (7 HP)
B) 1 militia (7 HP)

Round 1: A rolls 2. B rolls 3.
Result 1: A) 1 infantry (7 HP) and 1 bomber (4 HP)....... B) 1 militia (5 HP)

Round 2: A roll 2. B roll 2.
Result 2: A) 1 infantry (7 HP) and 1 bomber (2 HP)....... B) 1 militia (3 HP)

Round 3: A roll 3. B roll 2.
Result 3: A) 1 infantry (7 HP), bomber dies....... B) 1 militia (3 HP!?!?)

Round 4: A roll 1. B roll 2.
Result 4: A) 1 infantry (5 HP)........ B) 1 militia (2 HP)

Round 5: A roll 1. B roll 2.
Result 5: A) 1 infantry (3 HP)....... B) 1 militia (1 HP)

Round 5: A roll 2. B roll 3.
Result 5: Player A lost the battle. Player B wins by 1 militia (1 HP!?!?).

Yeah, this is the first time I see two units with the same defense taking turns to defend. One turn the cruiser would defend, the other turn, the drea would defend. I've done some tests prior with the opposite situation, and at least with units with the same attack, whoever decides who attack and who defend is random.

Just letting the screenshots here, will elaborate later...

So does this only count towards infantry? or all units? because in most cases its usually your Gen that is the last one standing.

It counts towards all type of units as far as i understood it . Not a big problem for scenarios but for duels or cw or small scale battles...

Good thing no one cares about scenarios

HP is not replenished, nor goes negative as I though. It ends in a random value.

I've only posted my results about that bug here for analyze it later on. ROYAL made a more formal report here: http://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=21998&board_page=2
