So, I'm a new player, obviously. I'm looking to play either MoS or GW. But, I'm wondering which upgrade I should purchase first. I'm looking at Ground Stealth (marines, 1k SP for me) or Ground: Secondary Defense (militia, about 2k SP for me). These are, obviously, very different units, and both have their own sets of tactical applications. But I was wondering which would be a better unit to get me "off the ground" in this game. I can currently afford the Marines, but I have only 1,172 SP at the time of this post, which means I would have to do a decent deal of saving up/achievement hunting to earn the 828 SP required for unlocking Militia, so price does matter here. Do note that I only have the three starting strategies to work with, RA, NC, and PD. With this information, which of those three strategies would work best for each upgrade? And here's the last question I intend to waste your time with. Envision that you have a stack of Marines, and you plan to go harvest the field of unprotected country capitals the OPFOR has, but you need to do it decently quickly. Because of this, you load the Marines into some air transports. But let's say you got careless, and strayed to close to a rouge tank that's out in the middle of nowhere, and the ATs are detected. If you were to quickly offload the Marines while still outside of the GROUND view range of the tank unit, would the Marines be detected? I know that any decent foe would notice the ATs several countries behind his lines and immediately assume that he's about to get Devil Dawg'd, but could the Marines escape without popping up on my enemy's map? Anyways, thanks for reading, and see ya 'round!

Some tips 1) Get marines first. 2) Don't load marines on ATS, better buy the Submarines (Naval Stealth Upgrade). 3) You can carry more marines in submarines by getting the Submarine Upgrade Capacity (cost a lot, you will not get it in a time...), and using MoS or HW or other strategy of this type. After all upgrades and with MoS, you will be able to carry 4 marines

So you would recommend MoS over GW, at least for using Marines to attack behind the lines? MoS seems like a decent strategy for that, but, I would also like to be able to present a front to my opponent to keep him busy, and I don't know if that would be viable with the penalties MoS gives to Battle Buses. Honestly I'm surprised you responded to such a pleb-y question, O Overlord of Many Guides.

I would get both as soon as possible; use GW for low-starting-income Europes, and get MoS for 25-50K Whole World. If you get MoS, it unlocks Stealth jets for free every time you use MoS in a game, and reduces Stealth jets cost from 300 to 200, making it a very powerful strategy for large maps. After that, get Air and naval transport upgrades, and then get increased sub capacity.

Okey, don't buy marines yet. You won't be using them unless you play GW or MoS, which already unlock those units to be played in game (just choose that strategy and it's automatically unlocked). In my opinion, militia is a more generally useful unit which is not unlocked by many strategies. Don't think of buying Master of Stealth until much later to start with, it's much better GW. Using ATs with marines is really... stupid XD it's obvious you'll be carrying something on those, you'll be detected easily besides from paying a ton shit of money to make a couple ATs. The best advantage about using marines is the stealth part. Just my opinion.

Well, with GW you have your tanks, infantries and ATS nerfed. With MoS, you only have your tanks and destroyers nerfed. But Destroyers aren't that useful anyway... so you should go MoS. However as they say, if you play a low-fund game OR join in a poor continent (Like Africa, Latin America) you should play GW over MoS, because GW marines cost 80, MoS ones cost 120...
You are such a liar No (cough), MoS doesn't unlock marines (cough cough). And this is not your opinion, is a fact (cough cough cough). MoS only unlocks Stealths (cough cough cough cough). But GW does unlock Marines and Militias (cough 5x). http://atwardatabase.weebly.com/standard-units.html

Oh come on ,one little mistake! That's why GW is more useful... Besides, MoS is a really expensive strategy while GW is a relatively cheap one which has many more possibilities of using, you should know that by FACT. GW is based on two units, militias and marines and you have both of them unlocked just cause you're cool enough to unlock a strategy. Meanwhile, MoS only has Stealths enabled, which you wont use much unless you're rich as fuck. MoS is also fun to play but with less possible circumstances where it's actually viable.

Again wrong fact. you're directly assuming that being cheap means usable ;_; ok.... Let's play a map full of water so you can use your so useful troops at me ;_; or a map with only air units, so you can use your superior air power at me ;_; Or a map with 10 reinforcements and 1k income ;_; or maybe if you want to base it on default map let's play a continental battle ;_;

Think of it this way: If you want big maps with lots of room, go for MoS and any stealth upgrades that don't come with it; if you like Europe maps, or other small maps, by all means use GW, unless it's a 50k Europe (very rare)

I can afford MoS now, off of a 700 SP game (which I lost, haven't won a game since I joined AW ;=;), but I'm not sure if I would use it correctly. MoS unlocks just Stealths correct? Well, I also have enough to buy Marines... And Subs. Should I buy the three? Or should I hold off and save up for GW, which would just unlock the Marines?

Yes, buy MoS, subs, and marines, then use them to win some whole world 50k's. Once you get enough for GW, get it so you can start winning some Europe games as well. The next best (and cheapest) upgrade to get next is naval capacity upgrade (only 700 SP!!!). Because it costs only 100 SP, I would get Scout planes (Air support planes, or sentries is also another name for it). Sentries have massive movement range and view range, making them ideal for spying out enemy territory. Though expensive (6000 SP) , you need to get Air transport capacity 1 upgrade. I would then go for increased sub capacity (17000 SP!!!), as that will give you 4 capacity subs while using MoS. By the way, don't waste any money on anti-air guns, as they are pretty much useless from what I hear from everyone I've talked to about them. After sub capacity, I guess go for Air Transport Capacity II upgrade, and that should occupy a lot of your time, as it costs maybe 27000 SP to get it!!! By that time, you'll probably be rank 6 or so, and any other upgrades you get are completely up to you whether or not to buy them: get whatever you like and whatever suits your playing style.

Usually cheaper strategies have a broader usage than more expensive ones, except for some concrete circumstances in which the more expensive one happens to be advantageous at whatever that wierd situation is. Ofc, my statement is a clear example of generalisation but that is needed in order to be able to give an opinion over two different strategies.

In my opinion, these are the most important upgrades to aim for and best for competitive AtWar play by rank 7 , ignore the general upgrades as they are irrelevant to non premium users, the infantry upgrades are expensive but worth it:

The upgrades under Kato above are particularly suited to duels, clan war and 3v3, if you prefer to play world games then the suggestions by 12gsh may be more useful.

Hey, I'm just thanking him for the support, no big deal, man. (By the way, this topic has been asleep for almost a month, kind of weird reviving it just to say something like that. Saying that is pointless, and doesn't help the topic at all anyway )
