The Royal Academy Awards

Why hello there map makers! So, Adog and I (and of-course DM-EC leader Yagami) have had a chat. The Royal Academy has now gained independence from the DM-EC politics.

So, the Royal Academy is now hosting a Cartography Qualification 'competition', though it seems more like an exam, whereby candidates would receive a question paper, and produce the answer cartographically. Onto a controlled assessment. The first question paper has already been produced, and will be ready for any candidate to use.

This is how the exam or 'competition' will work in this fashion. Candidates will be given editorial status in a clone of the 'controlled assessment map', this is done to ensure the candidate does not cheat by adding collaborators.

For example,

"Draw the Mekong river (8 marks)"

could easily become a question.

We're going to select an independent board of Judges, who will be marking harshly, for example Tunder, Adog etc, and when the Controlled-Assessment is over, we can produce the results, along with which judge gave which mark, to show to the judges there have been no alteration in their marking that they are unaware of.

95% + is A*/Platinum/Tier 1
90% - 94% is A/Gold/Tier 2
85%-89% is B/Silver/Tier 3
80%-84% is C/Bronze/ Tier 4

Anything below C does not get a Trophy.

This will not be an easy, as competition standards for map making have indeed been declining, but this shall certainly not be a free trophy give away. In fact the first paper I wrote was voted too difficult and had to be reduced in difficulty.

So no, we're not trying to give out free trophies, and yes this has been moderator approved.

Different tiers get different trophies, and the Tier 1 candidates will receive the Tier 1 trophy, the Adog trophy and the Superior Cartographer Trophy. It is unlikely anyone will get Tier 2, let alone Tier 1.

All EC cartographers, are automatically entered. Yes, this exam is open to all cartographers (just stating that since people thought it was Academy members of EC members only), if anyone else wishes to enter, please just write 'I'm in' in the comments section, and I will personally discuss with you how you wish to conduct the exam.

Excellent, Panda and I already have the first paper. Tunder has said it's good to go. We can talk about when you think the 3 weeks u wish to do the controlled assessment should be.
It will likely be during the holidays.

For your information... i applied for this and was sent a nicely created exam, with tasks that need to be done in map editor.

So what if they are role playing... isn't that the purpose of games.

Is that a fact or your personal opinion?... because more people in AW play roleplaying maps and custom maps then us who play the default.

I am making a map... and i'm sure as hell not making it for competitive scene players who would maybe try it once and go back to Europe.

DOes rp map count as maps?
