Will Atwar ever shutdown for a reason? Is there someone to carry on the game when the owner can no longer do ( Really sorry for this ) ... Is the game self sufficient? CUZ I LUV IT AND MANY OTHERS DO TO!

It goes on from late 2010 I think, I joined early 2011. If it is self-sufficient is purely based by the players behavior.
Only real costs coming with this are server costs, maybe some licensing things (i.e. for the forum software). If the player base grows, more expensive servers have to be rented/bought,
If the revenue of this project is big enough to rent stronger servers there should be no problem.

It will crash and burn or just simply go away there is always a better game eventually and I don't see the gameplay improving. Once we run out of stuff to do on here most will leave.

I think it is self-sufficient because people keep making new maps and new type of games and that is what keeps the game interesting. Something might happen in the world tomorrow and you can expect a map on AtWar about it. Then there are also the other type of maps ie football pitch, chess, janessa brazil
I think the community is also growing. I see new rank 7s on a regular basis.

I'm sorry to say but out of any strategy game I've seen on the web, this one is the cleanest lol.

I think it'll carry on for maybe another 3 years. After that there won't be enough revenue, Ivan and Amok sell the old girl over to some weirdo who makes very drastic changes to suit the market and eventually this website turns into an investment tracking site.

atWar is like Soviet Union - great country(game) with stupid community.

Yeah, we need to purge them all, starting with the RP noobs, and the non-english speakers in the room chat.

Yes, atWar is self-sufficient. The only expense is the server, and it's easily covered. There are only two of us so we don't need to worry about supporting employees and stuff like that. In the end, there's absolutely no reason for us to shut the game down and a lot of reasons to continue developing it - because we believe atWar can be much bigger. It's also unlikely that we would sell the game in the foreseeable future, as we're enjoying working on it and besides, no one's going to offer us as much as we want

So yeah, no worries, the game is here to stay.

It's not that simple. At the moment we haven't found an avenue of advertisement that is worth the cost. We could throw thousands of dollars at Facebook or Google ads, but get 10 times less in revenue from new players. We have tried it. The game is hard to advertise - it's too niche, too many people never give it a chance. Being a Silverlight-based game doesn't help either - although we're working on fixing that.

Advertisement should be country-based, it is alot easier to get more players that way. Put atwar short trailer on polish tv and observe registered players pool everyday. Try Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, they play internet games alot and i know they like strategy games, they just havent see or heard for atwar. Dont try with Germany, UK, France, Spain Italy. Although their population is great they seem not to pay attention to the games like eastern europeans. For example i still havent found large german player base on some international game, while there are 10x more hungarians or poles. In Asia Turkey, India and since recently China. Im not sure about Africa and South America, but i guess South Africa and Argentina/Brazil would be good targets. That wont cost more than $50k (of course popular tv stations with national frequency, but local would serve as well).

do you know how much money 50k is? for a game wich maybe brought 10k revenue until now...

and with germans, i don't know what you are talking about, i always find about 20% germans on online strategy games O_o

You have to invest some to earn some, it is always tough at start. But im sure banks give loans. Repaying is pretty comfortable these days.

ofc, and this is true, but i think it's unrealistic to get 50k from an game like Atwar

I was talking metaphorically for EU, but from my experience on internet games, germans make smallest communities(generally) while eastern european countries have more players(i repeat - international games, not EU or state based)

i think you just play the wrong games, have you ever went multiplayer Rome total war II or something like that?

Most people I meet don't like strategy games in general. They want something addicting and mindless to piss the time away. Like with Angry Birds and Temple Run.

That's not true though. Clash of clans and other games of the sort are built around strategy and they are doing quite well and it seems they are making a pretty good profit considering how hard it's been advertised.

Clash of Clans fits the exact game type I just described.
It's got the whole Farmville look to it and everything. People who play that generally wouldn't be playing At War.

My ass. Flanking, gives no advantage whatsover. but in IRL a flank attack during ancient, times, modern times, whatever can be extremely helpful. And GL fighting the people who buy a shitton of gems mate.

You're thinking about ''economic strategy'' but it's not that hard at all.
