Hey everyone. Since the grand summer tournament is drawing to a close, with Sol, Aristo and philipho vying for the supreme title, I thought it was time to try something new. Since a lot of people have been calling for a "bracket" of sorts, we might as well collect some ideas and get something in place.

This type of bracket would be sort of like a championship league but without scheduled matches; rather, anyone willing to join the league can play anyone else in the league, and post the results on the forum. Based on what rank you are and how many SP your opponent has, you will win a certain amount of points and climb up the bracket. This will continue on and on forever and for as long as Afterwind lasts as a game, or for when Amok implements it officially.

This is just an idea floating about in my head right now. If someone has an algorithm for calculating the amount of points won in relation to SP, do offer your suggestion.
Of coursem this type of setup is much easier to abuse, with farming and such. Therefore, some rules will be in place to prevent cheating, such as "can't play the same person more than twice in a row" or stuff like that.

Thoughts?

Reporting after each game as well as the feeling of obligation to play 1v1 can be tedious, and adding the difficulty of updating the ladder regularly makes this attempt a failure. It is better to implement an actual rating system like ELO in the game rather than have makedo solutions based on the forum.

Reporting isn't hard, to be honest. And as to the feeling of obligation to play 1v1... I'm sorry, how else do you want to establish a more accurate ranking of players in this game, without resorting to SP?

Fail then. We can't force Zizou to do anything we want because he is not human anymore.

NCM-Tos signed up.

For the formula to calculate SP-to-points, perhaps we could go with some arbitrary figures (ex. 100 SP = 10 points as an example) that change depending on the map used (ex. so y map is high SP, so on y 200 SP = 10 points, while x map is low SP, so 100 SP = 10 points)?

Alternatively, we could just go with 5 points to a no-alliance win, 3 points to an allied win, 1 point to a draw (in the rare event it happens) and 0 points for a loss.

I never liked this ladder shit. It wouldn't reflect true player skill but only active members of the forum and even if it was officially implemented as a meta-game mechanic by Amok, players would farm to the top with their multiple accounts (which are allowed, not necessarily a bad thing).

When I said the obligation to play 1v1 I meant that feeling of competitive toil (still might not get the message across). I'd more gladly support an actual implimentation of ELO rather than a partial and maybe imperfect system. In one chat I had with Amok, I supported addind a ranking system since SP only indicates how much you play and a recording system. It is apparant that the community would improve and become more competitive (those are interwind), as well as the game would claim to be a serious RTS, since it has such potential.

I agree, but as I said, in all other online games such systems get abused all the time. But what did Amok say about it? Let me guess, "too much work"?

Also, Afterwind is not an RTS.

Only abuse is point trading, which is called farming as it is, therefore no further abuse possible.
2 min turns isn't long enough for turn based strategy. Buggy turn slider shit games from gay pride programmers have corrupted your game sense.

That's fair enough, and I agree Aristo, I would also like to see this implemented officially in the game.

Sorry, explain again to me what ELO is? Because you want a ladder system to reflect who is best but you don't support 1v1 games?

ehuheuheuh you think I didn't advertise the summer tournament extensively in-game?
As I said, I will try to screen out any farming.
