I've tried the HTML5 version several times now and it feels like playing in quicksand. Really bad experience and not what I paid to play. Why drop the old Silverlight version as it works so much faster and better?

I could care less about more capabilities if those capabilities don't work well. A BMW might have all kinds of cool gadgets, but if I'm driving through mud, I'm going to be much more frustrated than if I'm driving a F150, Silverado, or Ram.

Spot on analogy.....I don't care how cool it COULD be....I just care that it works well.

What will you play when Silverlight is killed by Microsoft and other big browsers end of this year?

I'm actually not concerned with if it looks better...again the shiny new BMW vs the reliable old F150.....I just want it to work right and smoothly. So far HTML5 doesn't work smoothly at all. My time clocks would start 15 to 30 seconds later and the game would time out 30 seconds to a minute before time was finished. Moving around the map was a maybe type of thing. (If I just got done moving troops in Mexico and wanted to scroll down to move troops in Brazil, HTML5 might let me do that or it might make me stare at Mexico for 40 seconds.)

That's terrible. Is your PC rather old? Have you tried a different browser?

To answer your original question, we're dropping the SL version because we don't want to split the playerbase in two and confuse new players. Also since we moved to the new (2x more powerful!) server, the old service became prone to restarting for no reason at all. That seriously ruins player experience. To top all that, all browsers are quickly dropping SL support, which pretty much spells death to the SL version. It's not like we spent the last 2 years re-coding the entire game out of pure spite, we did it because that's the only way for the game to survive.

Good answer....Will the gameplay of HTML5 improve or will it continue to have the problem I mention above?

Of course it would improve. We'll gather feedback, isolate the problems and fix them. We were unfortunately forced to release a rather raw version, and now fixing things 'live' as fast as we can. Eventually it should be on par with the SL version, and hopefully even better.

Just a suggestion to try other browsers or versions of your browser, at 100% zoom... i didn't think it would make much of a difference, but using Opera at 100% sped up html so it's nearly as fast (for first 10 turns or so, just as fast) as SL was. zooming to 110% (what i had in chrome) slows it down a bit.
