04.05.2015 - 10:47 Ukraine: Guide and collection. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. This is the 4th part of our guides and collections about 3 vs 3 gaming with different countries. Sorry for the delay! Spain is next. About Ukraine... Many players ask why Ukraine and not Central Russia. The answer is that even though Central Russia has higher income, Ukraine offers a flexibility that characterizes the country and puts every other western country at disadvantage. The initial funds (6,700) and the initial reinforcements (from 18 to 30) make Ukraine a country capable of using purely offensive strategies. Features: Ukraine's influence zone - Highest starting funds of the most played countries: 6,700. - Close to Balkans, Scandinavia, Baltic and Russia. - Richest influence zone of the continent. When fully expanded, Ukraine earns a total of 2.5k per turn. - Usual enemy: Turkey and Germany. - Along with Turkey, Ukraine is one of the strongest picks in The East. - Most common strategy: Sky Menace General Guideline about Ukraine. The drawback of Ukraine is that it totally depends on its expansion; on one hand this makes Ukraine completely versatile, on the other hand it makes Ukraine fairly vulnerable at its initial turns. This has originated many picks to prevent Ukraine from expanding freely, being Poland, Russia Northwest and Russia Volga the most common. The guideline will differ, because there are too many possibilities when playing this country. However the most secure expansion is, probably, Russia. The next Guideline is based on the assumption that all the picks were standard and without taking into account Germany or Italy's actions: First Week: Turn 1 - Turn 4. After the first turn expansion, you should prioritize your moves in order to get advantage over Turkey. It is normal that you are outnumbered on the first week, but as long as you can keep your influence zone you are going to have the late game advantage due to your higher income. Break all of Turkey's walls while expanding and avoid attacking his big stacks of troops while complicating their advance through your land. Walling can be pretty important for this matter, either wall your cities, the sea or the south of Ukraine. The reinforcements are almost balanced when Ukraine gets Poland. To avoid reinforcement unbalance, you should keep all your land safe. If you lose any country for whatever reason you should try to retake them or try going for another country to keep the balance. Second Week: Turn 5 - Turn 8. If you've manage to keep all your countries intact, then you are doing it fine. If not, then you must play aggressive in order to restore the balance, always being careful with confronting Turkey's big stacks. If Turkey gets Poland or Belarus be alert. It is a dangerous situation as Turkey is able to reinforce that northern area on this week and use those units later as a threat to your little northern cities. Don't forget to keep expanding, you should go for Volga and be already on your way to all cities of Russia Northwest. Rely on walls as a defensive or even as an offensive measure when possible, as this will allow you to leave fewer troops at Kiev to defend or attack other cities and at the same time take Turkey's cities easier. Third Week: Turn 9+. If you've survived until here, assuming that you've managed to keep full Poland, Baltic, Finland, Belarus and all Russia, the game is pretty much won for you. Ukraine's economy is now strong and even without Hungary you would be receiving around 2.5k income. Buy bombers and go aggressive on Turkey. You should go for weak unprotected cities first, as they are safe to go - the more cities you get, the stronger you are and the more vulnerable Turkey becomes. General Tips : From Steve: Well, first of all expand as wide as possible on first turn, but without losing too much money. If you are Sky Menace... try to be as close as possible to 3,000 funds left and that will leave you some room for turn 2 and turn 3. After that, check what your enemy did and adjust to the situation. Be sure to take full country bonus if you aren't rushing... Let's say you've got a safe expansion, something like walling Hungary (or taking it), Belarus, Moscow, St. Petersburg and Finland. Not risky at all. Then you assume your enemy (Turkey) is going to rush, with Perfect Defense or Blitzkrieg, which is easy to read. In that case, you are not going to take Russia Volga or get full Russia Northwest country bonus. You will bring all those troops to your capital (Kiev), which is easy no matter what expansion you did. But if he doesn't attack, you aren't going to lose anything, because with Sky Menace it's easy to expand. So you use some units from your capital to keep expanding. From Laochra: - Don't spread yourself too thinly when expanding turn 1. - Failing neutrals hurts as Ukraine, especially if Turkey is in range of them. So be sure to send enough units to your expansions. - Ukraine depends on expansion. So you should constantly expand while holding your territories. - There should never be no ally funding from west. Ask your allies for money when possible. Other tips: - Keep all Turkey's cities wall fucked. This forces him to defend, and also can grant you extra turns without attacks. - Don't use an air transport to take every country. Some cities do not deserve the use of air transports. Examples are Volga's capital and cities and Russia Northwest's cities. - If Germany is your enemy, you can attack him in Scandinavia to help your allies. Poland is also a good target in order to pressure him. - If Italy is your ally, you can try to rush Turkey with him. - Against an unusual pick (Poland, Russia Northwest, Volga) don't try to overstack a single city while leaving everything else free for the enemy to take, ignore your enemy a bit for your first turn expansion and spread in order to get as many reinforcements as possible for your next turns. They can be summarized like this: - ALWAYS try to get the full country income bonus. - Send enough units for guarantee that you will take that country. - Expand strong but close enough to Ukraine. - Keep expanding constantly. - Don't use an Air Transport unless necessary. - Try to economize your expansions when possible. -Keep all Turkish cities wallfucked. - Watch your opponent's actions before deciding how to counter it. Tricks & Tactics: 1.Turnblock Moldova in turn 2, if taken: Turkey players are often overconfident with breaking Kiev's wall from Moldova. If you move enough units to turnblock this target on turn 2, you can have an extra turn without worrying about protecting your capital. 3 units are usually enough for this task. Another option would be walling Moldova on your 1st turn. 2.Turnblock Varna, Thessaloniki:Common turkey expansions usually have one sea transport on those two cities. Sending one bomber can grant you a nice turnblock chance. 3.Seawall between Odessa and Kiev: It usually is a useful wall that grants you an extra turn. If you are playing against an opponent that expects it, then try making a wall from Sevastopol to the other side of the Black sea, on Romanian or Bulgarian territory. 4. Skip Belarus turn 1: When you are playing an expensive strategy (SM, Blitz) it is useful to skip Belarus turn 1. Reasons are that it doesn't give much income while you can spend up to 5 reinforcements. 4. Lateattack Turkey's Balkan countries on turn 2: If you are playing against an inexperienced player, they tend to totally empty countries. Lateattacking them might prove useful. Players usually lateattack big countries like Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania with up to 5 bombers and 6 infantries. Expansion Collection. You are going to see different expansions for the country. Before learning an expansion, remember that is YOUR DECISION whenever you choose to do one expansion or another. You need to be aware of what you can do or what you can achieve by each expansion and each strategy shown. About the expansions... Basic Upgrades Set. As said before, Ukraine is one of the most versatile countries in Europe+. This means that you don't really need any upgrade to expand but rather for lategame purposes. However, for the basic objectives every expansion here will just require you only one basic upgrade: Air Transport Capacity I +1 capacity for Air Transport units. Cost: 6,000 SP. Sometimes you will be able to do the expansions even without this upgrade, but the number of troops and air transport used in the video could be greatly reduced. Optional Upgrades. It is suggested to get the following strategies with their respective upgrades in order to increase your possibilities as Ukraine: Sky Menace & Blitzkrieg & Perfect Defense: Air Transport Capacity II: +1 capacity for Air Transport units. Cost: 27,000 SP. Cheap Transportation: -30 cost for Naval Transport and -50 Air Transport units. Cost: 25,000 SP. Faster Ground Main Defense: +1 movement range for ground Main Defense units. Cost: 28,000 SP. Desert Storm: Faster Ground Stealth: +1 movement range for Ground Stealth units. Cost: 23,000 SP. Guerrilla Warfare: Air Transport Capacity II: +1 capacity for Air Transport units. Cost: 27,000 SP. Faster Ground Stealth: +1 movement range for Ground Stealth units. Cost: 23,000 SP. GENERAL. If you own a General unit, then you should consider getting the Basic General Set: Faster General I : +1 movement range for General. Cost: 3,000 SP. Faster General II: +1 movement range for General. Cost: 23,400 SP. General: Movement Range: Your General adds +1 movement range to all units in the stack. Cost: 26,100 And the following upgrades: - Sky Menace: General: Air Main Attack: Your General adds +1 attack for all Air: Main Attack units in the stack. Cost: 19,800 SP. - Perfect Defense & Blitzkrieg: General: Infantry Attack: Your General adds +1 attack for all Ground: Main Defense units in the stack. Cost: 5,850 SP. Cost: 12,600 SP. - All strategies: Lucky General: Your General adds +2 critical chance to all units in the stack. Cost: 19,000 SP. After expanding. It is useful for every strategy to get the cost reduction upgrades. Cheaper infantries (specially for SM, Blitz, PD and DS) and cheaper transports and other stealth upgrades (specially for GW) and so on. Credits Made by the community, for the community ! ----

Go Belarus. At your rank going Finland is not efficient. After rank 8 or 9 when you get the required upgrades (general ones, ats capacity II, etc) then apply waffel's theory.

The expansions are alright,a good player can develop trough the turn no matter how his t1 or t2 looks like.. But since everything has already been done in europe+ there is low variability even after t1 So most stick to pure memorisation
