Okay I am not sure where to stand on this but I believe it is an issue that should be addressed. Upgrades have been made quite powerful. Now for those who have them it is an excellent feeling getting a new upgrade as it increase your strength in play. This however leads to issues because the player is already strong because of the amount they play. Giving them an upgrade on top of this makes them disproportional strong against other players. Now I am for upgrades however I believe strategy has gone to upgrades. The strongest players on this game would be unable to take a new account and beat a moderate player. I played this game because I was told it would be similar to risk and civilization. In risk or civilization a new player will stand just as much chance as an experienced player. The experienced player will win based on skill and tactics not on previous upgrades. I understand this game is new everything is still being worked out. I am not sure what direction you guys (the developers) want to take with this game. As it stands now I believe upgrades take away from play tactics. Maybe this is how you guys as developers want the game and the community as well. I do not think upgrades should be the defining reason of whether you win or lose a game. If that is how the community feels I am not sure whether I can continue to play this game. Please let me know your opinion on this is, as I believe it is a important issue in this game.

I don't think upgrades really make you so powerful - they do give some minor advantage and they offer alternative playing styles. Also most of the important ones are very cheap, so you unlock them after just a few games. I do believe that it's perfectly possible for an experienced player to open a new account and beat a rank 5-7.

I think I have to agree with muncher. Air transport and marines are two good examples of how the playing field can be turned upside down. There should be an option to level the playing field with the selection of an option "everyone feels like a newbie" where it disables all the upgrades. Just having the option there would be nice. Maybe even make it more popular with an increase of SP based on who joins and what level they are.

Opening games with minimum and maximum levels would be grand. That way newbies could go sure that no pro would join later on and just grab your capital with his air transports.

Planning to do that, but perhaps after we have more active players.

Or you can just allow, say, five upgrades to be chosen per game. This way you need to strategize more about what you need to bring in with you.

Since my very first game until now, I haven't had an issue with upgrades. Even when I was rank 1 I could beat rank 7s fairly easy. Upgrades don't play THAT large of a role. I think you're problem here is that you simply fought a better player, and want to try and blame the upgrades. The fact is, they were probably simply a better player. I can't think of a single upgrade that'd give a player an unfair advantage, since every upgrade out there only changes minor things, and is easily overcome by simply being a good player.

While I agree with what colt said I think the other arguments still stand enough that including having a min/max level, limited upgrades, and no upgrades at all matches might be good to have, if not for balance then just for variety.

One week ago, I tried the "upgrade test" and I entered a game with a rank 0 guest account. On first game I was lacking marines, but on the third game I bought them. After that I saw little to no difference between a rank 8 and a rank 1 account. Perhaps one : "lift the fog" missed me, but nothing one more sentry plane could do. What "high rank" players have : -they well know the maps, city income, how to reach/defend them...... -they know other ranked players, style of play, aggressiveness, strategy used.... -they use all errors done by a beginer, no def line around main cities, no sentry planes used ..... And what I mean with "high rank" isn't a rank 7 or 8, it's a rank 3 to 4. In my opinion, a beginer is set with : Sentry plane, Marines, Submarines, Guerilla warfare.(2050 sp) Play games, try all the basic strategies (not only the sometimes brainless "kaboom" tank general) Choose hard countries and learn to play them with guerilla warfare/naval commander (africa/south america/philipines) You should have enough sp to take one or the other way : Logistic way (the 2 transport upgrades 5500 sp) Strategic way ( Master of stealth and sky menace 4500 sp) Or both if you've kept your sp. As a "beginner", but I think you are no more one at this point, I choose : Militia and Lift the fog

I understand the experience difference between beginners and old-timers makes the game sometimes unbalanced, but that is to be expected due to the fact that this happens in all games. But when you control half of Europe, and some rank 8 logs in, spams infantry with guerrilla warfare, and kills everyone, things get really annoying really fast. Luckily, the developers fixed this with the min/max rank option, and I thank them for it, but still: at least make the good units (marines, stealth, ANTI-AIRCRAFT!!!!!!!) a little cheaper?

I use it for lolz from time to time. Guest:"What does alt+4 do?" Gardevoir: "It gives you ∞ sp for the rest of your life". Guest: "Alright!" MAJOR lolz ensued that day. But nonetheless, iam past that. People made me grow up, damnitt. Seriously though, do poeple have a vendetta on the begginers room or something? It's dark and uninhabitable it seems...

Any rank 3 with 3900 sp got access to all the needed upgrades. (marines, subs, sentry,MoS,transport) It's 4 to 10 games (4 world and 10 Europe). Just a thought : Guerilla warfare infantry is useless ( does he spam militia ?)

Don't worry about this for the moment. Once we're out of beta we'll launch a major promo campaign, get thousands of new players and put new ones into the Beginners room by default. It will me teaming with life!

All of this chat is pointed in the same direction, Lack of defence. I have reiterated this on multiple pages and multiple places. Afterwind is at present a Mass builder, movement type game with little on the defence side. (going historical) Wiliam wallace VS King edward Karthage VS Rome Vietnam VS USA Russia VS Afganistan Durring all these wars the Stronger force either lost or withdraw with large looses. Your beginner players need it so do your advanced. More defence And get rid of 2 turn auto capital set it to 3. 2 is to short for 60% of the players
